Incredible India Exhibition at Cannes 2013
Incredible India got to display the best of the country’s diversity at the ‘Mecca of Global Cinema during Cannes Film Festival – 2013. This initiative brought together two passions of travelling and cinema in front of enthusiasts. At this prestigious platform, India promoted itself as an incredible filming destination in front of the cinematic world. The recent success of ‘Life of Pi’ shot in Munnar and Pondicherry also enhanced India’s brand image as a cinematic destination. This exhibition initiative will promote foreign collaborations and invite foreign film makers to shoot movies here.
Kashmir Tourism Festival
Last month, Kashmir hosted the first of its kind festival wherein the best of the destination was showcased under ‘Kashmir Tourism Festival’. This celebration brought together the best of Kashmir through a range of natural, adventure, heritage and cultural activities to promote tourism in the valley. Participants in this festival got to experience the state’s surreal side while viewing the Shikara race, relishing the 36 course Wazwaan meal, listening to Qawwali evenings and marvelling at the fineries of Kashmiri embroidery, Kashida. Also, they got to be a part of adventures in Kashmir through golfing atop the world’s highest golf course, trekking, rafting and paragliding here.
Shashi Tharoor becomes a Quiz Master for Kerala Tourism
Kerala Tourism Board took a unique initiative last month by organizing Kerala Tourism Quiz, hosted by an iconic personality belonging to the state, Mr. Shashi Tharoor. This is first of a kind online event in India organized on a global platform. The aim of this quiz is to promote the destination’s cultural, traditional and heritage through a number of engaging questions in the form of videos presented by Mr. Tharoor.
The quiz will be on till July 8th, 2013, allowing Kerala enthusiasts to test their knowledge of the destination daily. Around 6,200 gifts or souvenirs from Kerala will be up for grabs in the show.
Upcoming Fairs and Festivals
Hemis Fair – Hemis is the most popular festival of Ladakh, celebrating the birth of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Vajrayana Tantric Buddhism. The festival takes place at the 17th century Hemis Gompa, near Leh. Here at this largest monastery complex, the annual Hemis Festival is celebrated with full gusto. The masked dance ritual during Hemis Festival and the unveiling of Thangkas is the major highlight of the celebration. The lamas or monks during the festival do masked dance to signify the victory of Buddhism over evil. This year the festival will be celebrated during 18th – 19th June, 2013.
